Disciple Making: Patterns of Discipleship and Evangelism for the Contemporary Church
A 14 week study on principles and practices of Disciple Making. Bible-based lessons draw from a wide variety of New Testament texts. Each lesson contains an outline, application and thought provoking discussion questions constructed around a "main idea" and study aim.
A companion commentary written by other authors is also available.
Christian Education: A Guide to the Foundations of Ministry
This excellent textook was written by a team of quality Christian Educators from a variety of backgrounds. The contents is valuable for designing and implementing a solid Christian Education Ministry for a local Congregation. I wrote the chapter entitled "Adult Ministry."
Even though some of the demographic information is now a big dated, I think you'll like the the biblical foundation and basic framework for Adult Ministry in this chapter.
Engage: Tools for Contemporary Evangelism
Engage was a collaboration of works by faculty and students of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in honor of Dr Charles "Chuck" Kelly on the occassion of his retirement. Dr Kelly was a strong champion of evangelism and discipleship while serving at the school. He encourage ministers and churches in the mission of reaching people for Jesus. My contribution was "Outreach and Evangelism through Sunday School and Small Group Ministry." I tried to reinforce groups as a primary means of reaching and winning others to Christ.
Together We Equip
Chapters written by professors and practitioners give this book a somewhat eclectic feel, while staying centered around the theme of disciplehip and ministry leadership. My contribution "Integrating Discipleship and Ministry Leadrship: A Biblical and Philosphical Foundation" was an attempt to address the fundamental elements.
The Immeasurable Love of Christ
You may find this outstanding study of Ephesians a valuable curriculum choice. I wrote lessons 5, 6 & 7 of the study guide. These 3 lessons were my first efforts with GC2 Press. I encourage you to check it out. Plenty of good resources. I hope to write for them gain in the future.
Indispensable
I had two roles on tthis project, co-editor and writer. I worked with Jim Estep and John McClendon to gather and edit the individual chapters. Each chapter was based on presentations at the annual meeting of Disciple Leaders Network (BACE the time) hosted a NOBTS. The conference theme of
INDiSPENSIBLE became the title of this collection. I co-wrote "Essential Players in the Disciplemaking Process" with my friend and colleague Hal Stewart. I also wrote "Models of Disciplemaking:Traditional to Contemporary" which has become one of my favorite pieces.
Doctoral Supervision and Engagement
This article was the result of research conducted within the Professional Doctoral Program at NOBTS. The purpose of the study was to measure the frequency and quality of interactions between faculty or project mentors and their students. The relationship and interactions between students and feild mentors was also explored. Program elements were adjusted to strengthen the process and practices.
Discipleship Infrasystem
Co-Written with student, colleague and friend, Ernest Graham, this paper presents research findings and implications for the contemporary evangelical and ecclesial audience to fulfill the biblical command to ‘make disciples’ (Matthew 28:19). We explored how the various environments of formal and informal education (communities of learning), the marketplace, home, and third spaces (communities of practice), and the church (communities of faith) can function to serve interdependently and foundationally for one another. We proposed a model which realistically integrates these three communities into an “infrasystem” of discipleship with multiple entry points and reflects the Holy Trinity, a true model of servant inter-dependence.
More on the Way!
I've submitted a chapter in a book slated for publication later this year, and just signed another contract to coauthor a book to be complete in early 2027.
